It's not called beauty sleep for nothing!

Sleep is one of the few completely free beauty treatments around and it really can have a huge affect on your physical appearance.

Not getting enough quality sleep could result in a whole host of not so nice effects on your looks:

  • shadows and bags under the eyes
  • bloodshot eyes
  • general poor skin and spots
  • weight gain (lack of sleep has been linked to obesity).

When it comes to your body, lack of sleep can have an impact on your general health as well as your appearance. We all need sleep for proper physical and mental development, which is why babies, children and teenagers need more sleep than fully grown adults.

A baby needs up to 19 hours sleep a day (depending on their age and not all in one go) and a teenager around 10 hours, compared to the eight hours that an average adult needs.

As well as looks, immunity from illness and growth, we all need sleep to help us function physically on a day to day basis. Without enough decent sleep, our reaction times slow down and our coordination becomes poor, which can have a knock on effect on how well we do our jobs or perform every day tasks.
